IHUM Fellow: Martina Meyer, PhD

Martina MeyerMartina’s interdisciplinary commitment is evident in her academic background and research interests.  She received a B.A. in Classics and Art History, has Master’s degrees in Classics and Museum Studies, and a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Toronto.  As a classical art historian her work focuses on the creation, circulation, and reception of images in antiquity and beyond. She is currently preparing a book manuscript entitled Household Names: Images of Myth and Tragedy in Domestic Contexts, in which she explores how images created for feminine spaces engage cultural paradigms in ways unique to the domestic context and its viewers.

She has undertaken collections research at the Louvre, British Museum and National Museum of Athens, and was recently visiting Professor of Greek art and archaeology at Wesleyan University. Despite this somewhat nomadic existence, she calls Toronto home. Her interest in the visual arts finds personal expression in photography and painting.
