Barbara Clayton (MA, Princeton, French; PhD, Stanford, Classics) has a long and happy history with IHUM as well as SLE (seven years total). She has also taught Greek prose composition and Greek mythology for Stanford’s Classics Department. She joins the program this year to fill a last minute vacancy in Inventing Classics. Barbara is a Homerist, specializing in the Odyssey. Her most recent publication is a new reading of the Cyclops episode in Odyssey Book 9. Her other academic interests include mythology, ancient comedy, gender in the ancient world, the classical tradition, and classics in popular culture. Her favorite non-academic pursuits are volunteering in Redwood City’s Project READ (adult literacy), yogalates, and teaching Sammy (not an old dog) new tricks.
