Stanford Arts Access: Navigating the Arts at Stanford

Thursday 14th September is a day designed to ensure you get the most of your Arts Intensive experience. You will have the opportunity to reflect and feedback on your experience not only with Arts Intensive, but with the Arts at large at Stanford. You will have the ears of arts faculty, and some of the key players in different arts administrations on campus. Along with contributing to a discussion of the future of the arts at Stanford, you will receive valuable insights and contacts to access art you love wherever you are! The day will culminate with the popular Digital Portfolio workshop by Megan Miller, in which students can learn how to market their creative work using a virtual medium.

10:00-10:50     Inside Access:  Directors at SiCA and arts orgs on campus share the fellowships, funding and arts related opportunities for students.

11:00-11:50     Direct Access:  A conversation with Stanford Arts Program Directors and Department Chairs.

1:00-3:00 PM  Building your Art Portfolio, SiCA workshop, Megan Miller

Student Commitment

Students are expected to be fully committed to Arts Intensive. This means attending all class sessions, class field trips, and mandatory college-wide activities. AI participants cannot work a full- or part-time job or travel outside of required class activities during the program. Summer jobs must be completed before September Studies begins; September Studies participants cannot work at Stanford Sierra Camp, for example, which overlaps.  Because of conflicts with required training schedules, RA and RCC roles preclude participation in AI, as do some other dorm staff positions. Any dorm staff positions should be disclosed as possible conflicts on your commitment form.

All absences from AI, including weekends, must be approved by the faculty instructor. Students cannot be absent for more than two days between September 3 and September 21 and may not arrive late to the program if it will cause them to miss a class meeting. As during the regular academic year, student conduct is guided by the Fundamental Standard and Honor Code. Admission to the program may be revoked at any point if a student is found to be ineligible or in violation of the Fundamental Standard or Honor Code.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Students who commit to attend and then withdraw will be charged a $600 withdrawal fee. The student will also be charged for the cost of all distributed reading materials if these materials are not returned to the program. Exceptions due to illness require a doctor’s letter in order to waive the withdrawal fee. In other circumstances students must work with the Program Director to discuss having the fee reduced or waived.

Registration and Grading

Students receive 2 units of credit in their AI course.  Credit will be earned in the lead instructor's home department if the course is interdisciplinary.
After students confirm acceptance into the seminar, they will receive notice on how to registrar for the summer course.

The professor determines the grade option for SOCO seminars (Letter (ABCD/NP); Letter or Credit/No Credit; Satisfactory/No Credit).
