Stanford Undergraduate Sustainability Scholars

This undergraduate program, sponsored by the Program in Writing and hands surrounding the Planet EarthRhetoric (PWR) and the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE), provides opportunities for two undergraduates each academic year to carry out ambitious writing projects that explore issues of sustainability and the environment as related to the Stanford campus. All written projects will entail an explicit research component and an eventual public display of student work.

The writing produced could be:

  • fiction or non-fiction
  • journalistic or academic
  • poetry or prose

A stipend of $2,000 will be awarded to each scholar.

Applications for 2011-12 will be due June 1, 2011 (note extended deadline);  the updated application form is at the link to the right. For detailed application information, visit SUSS.stanford.edu.

We will be launching a blog as a form for sharing ideas about sustainability in the Stanford community. Send us your ideas for single blog entries or regular columns.
