PWR class preference submission for students assigned to Winter Quarter opens November 16.
If you want to change your assigned quarter, please go to Changing Your PWR Quarter. Note: if you have a current class assignment, you can't petition online but must come in or write to pwrcourses@stanford.edu with your rationale.
Attendance Policy
Once you have an assignment, attendance at your assigned PWR section is mandatory for all of the first three class sessions of each quarter. If you know you will be absent, you must contact your instructor and the PWR Office before your scheduled class. Failure to attend any of the first three class sessions without making prior arrangements with the instructor and the PWR Office will result in an automatic drop from the class. If you are dropped as a no-show, you will have to contact us to be assigned to another PWR section.
Also, only two absences from class are allowed in a total quarter, even if you do notify the instructor beforehand and have valid excuses. PWR class meetings involve extensive in-class writing and collaborative work, and you may not pass the class if you miss more than two of them.
Changing Your PWR Quarter
Log in at My PWR Assignments to see your quarter assignments and petition to change them. Generally, you can submit quarter-change petitions anytime as long as you haven't submitted section preferences and don't have a current section assignment. If you have a current class assignment, you can't petition online but must write to pwrcourses@stanford.edu with your rationale.
PWR 1 students: We recommend that you consult with your Academic Director about your course plans before you petition to change your PWR 1 quarter.
Petitions are evaluated based on the space available in the quarter you request and the strength of your rationale. Therefore, it's in your interest to construct a specific, detailed academic argument for your request. Petitions are processed on a rolling basis, so you should usually receive results in one or two business days.
PWR Enrollment in Axess
You cannot add or drop PWR 1 or PWR 2 courses on Axess yourself; only the PWR Office can change your enrollment. Your official PWR class assignment is the one shown at My PWR Assignments. When assignments are made or changed, it may take up to 24 hours for your Axess study list to reflect them.
