The spring Intro Sem application due date has passed.
For best results, we suggest that students arrange an appointment or see a drop-in consultant at least one week before the deadline to brainstorm, discuss format, approach, and outline. The Hume Writing Center is also open for appointments and drop-in tutoring on Monday and Tuesday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; and Friday 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
You can expect to get one-on-one writing consultation with trained consultants. Our consultants work with students at various stages of writing, from getting started and brainstorming to revising and improving the style of your final draft.
Below is a list of the range of writing support available:
♦ sharpen your "thesis" (your central argument for why you want to take the Intro Sem);
♦ organize your argument and improve the flow of your essay;
♦ make a more compelling case by expanding on points with vivid examples;
♦ include better examples and take away redundant ones; or
♦ tighten your prose and improve your style.
You may sign up for one 30-minute session or a 60-minute session (two 30-min sessions back to back).
How Do I Sign Up?
During the academic year, you can make an appointment for an in-person writing consultation or visit a drop-in tutor in the residences or in the Writing Center.
