December 15, 2005
Dear Stanford Employee,
On Dec. 12, 2005, United Stanford Workers, SEIU Local 715, called a large number of employees off work to engage in a one-day strike. In spite of this work stoppage, the University continued to operate and provide service to students and the broader Stanford community.
We would like to thank employees for conducting themselves in a professional manner during the strike. We would like to make special mention of those staff members, both striking employees and non-striking employees, who worked hard in the days preceding the strike to prepare for Monday's planned work stoppage. Through planning and preparation, Monday seemed much like any other day for many of our students and employees.
As we move forward, we want to reiterate that Stanford is a community that values all of its members. While some groups may occasionally have disagreements over particular issues, the University is committed to providing each employee with a respectful working environment. Regardless of your views regarding the strike, we hope and trust that you will continue to treat your co-workers with the respect and caring that they deserve in the days ahead.
Sincerely,
John Hennessy
President
