PERMANENT POSITIONS

Position Title: Coordinator of Student Engagement
Job Requisition Number: 52337
This position supports the Center’s mission to engage the Stanford community in utilizing the museum’s collection, exhibitions, and resources for academic study and career preparation, as well as for extracurricular activities and personal growth. Serves as Cantor liaison to Stanford students, with particular focus on creative and social interests. Reports to the Curator for Education.
Coordinates non-academic/extracurricular projects and activities for individual students and campus groups. Coordinates paid and volunteer opportunities for students to work with museum staff. Collaborates with education and other staff to develop effective information delivery systems for campus.
Promotes activities and programs that attract new and returning student audiences to the Center. Supervises paid student assistants who plan and host such programs.

Position Title: Storage Conservation Technician
1 year term position at 60% time
Job Requisition Number: 52517
Under the supervision of the Curatorial Assistant for the Arts of Africa and the Americas, the Conservation Technician will create custom storage housings for the African and Ancient American collections. These collections are primarily comprised of three-dimensional wooden, metal, or ceramic objects, often with considerable age and fragile parts and surfaces.
Conservation Technician will:
- Assist supervisor and conservation staff in assessing objects for fragility and housing needs.
-Research long-term object housing methods and materials.
-Fabricate custom long-term storage housings for the African and Ancient American collections.
-Assist in the sorting and organization of the African and Ancient American collections.
- Maintain a clean, well-organized workspace that will be shared by other staff members.
-Order supplies as needed.
-Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to handle unprotected works of art including wood, metal, and clay sculptures, textiles, and jewelry. Familiarity with possible condition problems with said works of art and willingness to consult conservator or curator as needed. In-depth knowledge of appropriate housing methods and materials, e.g. archival boards, foams, tissues, adhesives, and plastics. Demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge with initiative and judgment, concern for detail, accuracy, and neat execution of work. Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor and museum staff.
Prefer 2 years experience working in a museum or gallery setting. Previous experience with object housing projects desired. B.A. degree preferred with background in art history, studio art, art conservation, or museum studies.

TEMPORARY AND STUDENT POSITIONS

Position Title: Family Programs Sunday Assistant
(Temporary position)
To represent the Family Programs Coordinator in delivering Sunday programs to the public by being the on-site responsible staff person to:
- supervise Family Program volunteers
- communicate with security and other museum staff
- facilitate set-up and teaching of contractual art instructors
- monitor activities in the museum's studio classroom and in galleries
- check on docent family tours in advance and in progress
- circulate to relieve volunteers for breaks
- gather and record daily statistics
- assure the smooth operation of the day's programs
Required Qualifications:
- good organizational and oral communication skills
- good interpersonal ("people") skills with all ages
- be fully mobile and physically active
- able to work on Sundays 10am to 4pm, year-round, with some flexibility
Desired:
- some familiarity with art and/or family programming and/or informal teaching environments

Position Title: Public Relations Assistant
(Student position)
The PR student assistant will:
- assist in planning publicity campaigns geared towards Stanford students and the community
- distribute information about the Cantor and its programs through a variety of forms including: Facebook, email, online, and printed materials around campus
- work on outreach to student groups
- keep online listings up-to-date & seek out new listing opportunities
- compile and organize information about exhibitions, events, and programs
- assist with mailings
- write and submit notices for student publications
- organize and file PR materials as needed
Qualifications:
- knowledge of the Stanford campus and its environs
- skilled at word processing, design software a plus
- excellent written and oral communication skills
- work well with others
- able to work on an individual basis, and be self-motivated
- office and prior PR experience is desirable
This position is on-site at the Cantor Arts Center
Schedule is flexible, 8 – 15 hours per week.
