Graduate Admission

The application deadlines are:
Ph.D. January 2
M.A. (no aid): March 28

All Stanford graduate studies applicants are required to submit scores on the General section of the GRE. All applicants whose first language is not English must submit TOEFL scores from an examination given in the last eighteen months. ( Exception: The TOEFL is waived for applicants who have recently completed two or more years of study in an English-speaking country.) A TOEFL score of at least 575 on the paper-based TOEFL is expected in order to begin graduate studies.

In addition to Stanford general application requirements above, the department has the following prerequisites:

advanced competence in spoken and written Spanish or Portuguese;
a critical writing sample in Spanish or in English representative of your best work.
Test of Spoken English (TSE) scores
