Dr. Marietta Chudakova is the author of more than 300 works on the history of 20th-century Russian literature, including monographs on Yuri Olesha (Masterstvo Yuriia Oleshi [1972]), Mikhail Zoshchenko (Poetika Mikhaila Zoshchenko [1979]), Mikhail Bulgakov (Zhizneiopisanie Mikhaila Bulgakova [1988, 1989]), and more recently a collection of works on the history of Russian literature of the Soviet period (Literatura sovetskogo proshlogo [2001]). She is a member of the Union of Russian Writers as well as the editorial boards of the journals Novy mir, Chelovek, and the series Tynianovskii sbornik.
In 1994-2000, Chudakova served on the Presidential Clemency Board of the Russian Federation. She has been a member of the Organizing Committee the party The Right Cause (Pravoe delo), and during the 2007 elections was fielded as candidate no. 3 from the Union of Right Forces (SPS).
