We Congratulate:

  • Irina Sevekenko (PhD 1998) has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Slavic Langauges and Literatures, University of Wisconsin. We extend warm congratulations to Irina both on her new appointment and her family.
  • Professor Joseph Frank has received the 2008 Distinguished Contributions to Slavic Studies Award. The award represents the highest honor bestowed on senior scholars by the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies. Congratulations, Joe!
  • Martha Kelly (PhD 2007) will be starting a Visiting Assistant Professor position in the fall in the German and Russian Studies Department at the University of Missouri, in Columbia, MO.
  • Dr. Monica White will be joining the Department of Russian & Slavonic Studies at the University of Nottingham as a lecturer (assistant professor) in Russian Studies.
  • Marianna Landa (PhD 2001) has been appointed Assistant Professor (tenure track) at the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (SLLC) at the University of Maryland in College Park. Congratulations, Marianna!
  • Ilja Gruen, PhD Program, class of 2003, has been nominated for Stanford University's Centennial Teaching Award 2007-08. Congratulations!
  • Drusia C. Dickson, a Russian Major (Class of 2010), the winner of the State
    Department Critical Languages Scholarship
    for language study in Russia
  • Professor Joseph Frank, feted as the Guest of Honor at the international conference ART, CREATIVITY, AND SPIRITUALITY IN DOSTOEVSKY’S BROTHERS KARAMAZOV, held at the College of Holy Cross and Museum of the Russian Icon in Worster, MA., April 10-12, 2008. Click here for the Confernce Program.
  • Professor Gabriella Safran, the winner of the Dean's Distinguished Teaching Award in 2007
  • Irina Denishchenko (BA '07), the winner of the Robert M. Golden Medal for Excellence in the Humanities and Creative Arts for her honors thesis, "The Carnivalesque and Russian Carnival in Dostoevsky's The Double" (co-directed by Gabriella Safran and David Palumbo-Liu).
