Application Process

 

Eligibility:

 

Interested juniors and first-and-second term seniors are encouraged to apply. Transfer students must have completed at least one academic quarter at Stanford at the time of application. Students in engineering and natural sciences as well as the humanities, arts and social sciences are welcome to apply. All students must have more than a general understanding of policy and politics.

Informational Meetings:

 

Information meetings are held on campus early in the fall, winter and spring quarters. These meetings give students the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the Stanford in Washington environment. Questions regarding the timing of meetings should be directed to the Program Coordinator on campus.

 

 

Application Timeline:

 

Application to the Stanford in Washington program roughly follows the timeline given in the table below. However you should contact Marjorie M. Alfs at the Haas Center for the specific application deadlines:

Students who are overseas or otherwise not on campus during the qualifying quarter should contact the program staff before leaving campus so they can submit an application and be interviewed in the previous application cycle. Questions about the application deadlines should be directed to the Program Coordinator on campus.

 

 

The Application

 

Your application should include the following:

  • a completed on-line application
  • an official transcript
  • a one-page resume emphasizing academic and other relevant experience and activities suitable for submission to potential internship supervisors. This resume will be submitted electronically in the online application
  • two letters of reference, with at least one from a faculty member

Qualified applicants will be interviewed by a committee including the Director of Stanford in Washington.
