Mandated Supervisor/Faculty Training

Dear Stanford Faculty and Staff Supervisors,
California law, AB1825, now requires that all supervisors receive harassment prevention training every two years.
If you have been identified as a supervisor by your department, and have not completed the 2-plus hours' harassment prevention training, you will receive an email from from “Stanford University” <admin@lawroom>. The subject line will be Required Harassment Training: Registration Info. Please do not delete this email as spam. It will contain your ID, Password and brief instructions for accessing LawRoom’s website. You can register for training through the LawRoom website.
Stanford’s Sexual Harassment Policy Office has updated the online training program, providing greater relevancy to university situations. California law mandates these trainings. The university cannot exempt any supervisors—faculty or staff—from this legal obligation. If you do not complete training within 90 days of notice, you may not be able to remain in a supervisory role.
Under California’s broad legal definition of "supervisor", all faculty members qualify as supervisors, because of their roles overseeing students, TAs, RAs, post docs, staff or other faculty. Therefore, all faculty are required to complete harassment prevention training, as well as all staff members who supervise other employees, even if they supervise student and temp workers.
In recent years, many of you have attended sexual harassment training, and in certain cases, a Respectful Workplace Briefing. These prior trainings do not meet the precise content and time requirements of the law, so you will still need to comply with this state-mandated training.
We appreciate your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Dr. Laraine T. Zappert
Director
Sexual Harassment Policy Office
