Student Management History
At Stanford, student residences are an integral part of the educational
process. The Office of Residential Education is responsible for developing
the policies and programs affecting the intellectual, educational, and
social activities; the quality of life; and the staffing in all residences.
From the University's earliest days, some student residences ? and some
student food services ? have been managed by the students living in
or near them. At present, there are 37 student-managed residences and
10 additional student-managed kitchens on the Stanford campus: the 36
houses on the Row, the East-Asian Studies Theme house (EAST) in Governor's
Corner; the Kosher Co-op and four Dining Societies in Governor's Corner;
and five Eating Clubs that serve Toyon Hall. These student managed houses
range in occupancy from 25 to 61 students, and each house elects at
least three student managers who organize and oversee the management
of the group's finances, meals, and housekeeping.
This page is intended to provide information and resources to the student
managers. If you have any suggestions on how to improve this site (information
or forms to include, additional related link, etc.) please contact Zac Sargeant at zac@stanford.edu
