It is important to find out the impact of the RA/CA position on your package so that you can make an informed decision before you start this process about whether or not you could/would accept a position should you be offered a position. Interviews with RFs/CDs/Row or Suites Supervisors Interviews are held during the following dates:
(See "Special Instructions-Interviews with RFs/CDs/Row Director/Suites"). Submitting Preference Lists All RA/CA applicants (including all Row applicants) must submit RA/CA preference lists to the Residential Education Office (425 Arguello Way) by the following deadline in order to be considered for an RA/CA assignment.
Both RA/CA candidates and RF/CD/Supervisors will submit a rank ordered list of preferences for assignments. These preference lists will be used to do "the Match". Applicants must submit a preference list, even if it is only for a single house, to be considered for a position. You will not be considered for an RA/CA assignment unless we have your preference list by the deadline. There will be no exceptions. (See "Special Instructions-Preference Lists and Matching Process" The Assistant Director of Residential Education is responsible for the final matching process based on the preference lists submitted by RA/CA applicants and the RFs/CDs/Supervisors. The match is a straightforward process that is designed to maximize both RA/CA candidate and RF/CD/Supervisor preferences. Notification of Appointments Notification of RA/CA appointments will be made via the Web site (for applicants on campus and applicants away spring with access to the Web site) and by e-mail/fax depending on your location (for applicants away from campus spring quarter without access to the Web site). Applicants with no e-mail/fax or access to the Web site should call the Central Residential Education Office ((650) 725-2800) at the designated date/time below.
(See "Special Instructions-Notification of Appointments") Confirmation of Appointment: Accepting/Declining Appointment Offers and Submitting Employment Forms
The Draw If you are planning to live in campus housing next year, you must enter the Spring Housing Draw. All applicants--undergraduates and graduate students-- must go through the normal housing draw application process even though the housing assignments will be held after the announcement of RA/CA appointments. If you are going to be away from campus winter/spring or spring quarter, contact the Housing Assignment Services (HAS) before you leave campus to get instructions. If you are selected to be an RA/CA and you accept the RA/CA offer, you will be signing a Draw card that indicates your appointment and your name will be removed from the draw. If you are selected as an RA/CA and are assigned to the Suites or Mirrielees, you must inform HAS of your roommates' names and have your roommate sign acceptance forms by the appropriate deadline at HAS. HAS will then remove your roommate from the Draw. Your roommate(s) must have a year of preferred housing. Your RA/CA assignment will use a year of unpreferred housing (unless you have no years of unpreferred remaining). Welcome for 2004/2005 RA/CAs If you are selected to become a Resident Assistant, please plan on attending the RA/CA Welcome for the 2004/2005 Residence Staff. Location, Date, and Time to Be Determined. September Staff Training Staff training in September is mandatory. You should plan to return to campus on Thursday, September 2, 2004. General Practices/Guidelines Under no circumstances may a RF/CD/Supervisor or RA/CA offer a position or show preferential treatment to an applicant or otherwise indicate the desirability of an applicant relative to others. RF/CD/Supervisors have been asked to end interviews with neutral comments such as, "Thanks for your time" to avoid saying anything that could be misinterpreted as a preference, strong interest, or promise. Similarly, applicants may not indicate to RF/CD/Row or Suites Supervisors or RA/CAs the desirability of one residence relative to others. Please remember to keep copies of all materials you submit. Make sure you have read the current Resident Assistant and College Assistant Job Descriptions. Be aware that programmatic changes may alter the final RA and CA responsibilities. Go to Special Instructions for more detailed instructions. Go to the RA/CA Application Process to see important dates, enter/revise your profile and application essays, get disk copies of recommendation forms, check on interview status, and check appointment status. |
