- Heidegger says philosophy takes one to the limits of the possible. By close reading of his Phenomenology of Religious Life, "Phenomenology and Theology," What Is Metaphysics?, selections from Being and Time, and other texts, we will test his claim and nail down the hermeneutical uniqueness of Heidegger's work.

HAPPENING AT STANFORD


January 6-20, 2010: Prof. George Pattison. Religious Studies will host Professor George Pattison of Christ Church, Oxford, for two weeks this winter. Prof. Pattison will deliver two public lectures and lead a three meeting workshop. His specialties include Heidegger. Kierkegaard, and Dostoyevsky.

Jesus the Jew. Spring lecture course, Tu Thur 11:00-12:15, taught by Profs. Thomas Sheehan and Robert Miller. RS 132C. "Jesus the Jew in First Century Christianity" critically investigates the historical Yeshua - his life, teachings, death (and resurrection) - and his afterlife in first-century Christian writings.
