Information For:

Transcripts

The only transcripts available through the Registrar's Office are official transcripts. Each transcript has the signature of the Registrar and Stanford University seal. If multiple transcripts are requested to a single address, they are packaged together in one envelope. Envelopes are not signed or sealed (stamped) across the flap. If you require separately packaged transcripts, a signature or seal across the flap of the envelope, or forms attached to the transcripts please see the section on Special Processing below.

  • All transcripts are mailed
  • We do not fax transcripts (faxed transcripts are not official)

How do I request a transcript?

Current students request a transcript through Axess, by mail, by fax (650-725-7248), or in person. We are unable to accept telephone, email, or rush requests. If you have been registered within the past four academic years, you should request transcripts through Axess. You will need a SUNetID and password; if you do not know your SUNetID or password please contact ITS. Alumni not registered for more than four years should see the Alumni Transcript page.

How much does a transcript cost and how long will it take?

Transcripts from Stanford University are free. Axess requests are mailed the next business day.

Can I request that my transcript be expedited?

Unfortunately the Registrar’s office does not have the resources in place to facilitate rush orders. However, students may purchase federal express materials and a prepaid envelope and we will send out the transcript(s) in the materials provided. Students are encouraged to write down the tracking number for future reference.

Will my transcript indicate G.P.A or class standing?

The GPA is not printed on the offical transcript and is not released outside the University. The GPA can be viewed on the unofficial transcript in Axess. Stanford does not calculate class standing.

I was at Stanford as a non-registered Student: can I receive a transcript?

If you attended a departmental seminar, certificate program, or conference, contact the department for any records requests. Search for the department here.

Transcript Special Processing: how to communicate instructions.

Specific requests are required for any of the following:

  • separately packaged transcript
  • a stamp or signature across the flap of the envelope
  • forms that need to be attached to the transcript

When you order your transcripts through Axess, select  Hold for Special Processing,  and write down the request number. Mail or fax your forms along with your request number or drop them off at the Registrar's Service Windows. For special packaging requests, direct your instructions to registrar@stanford.edu; be sure to include the request number in the subject line.

I have a hold on my record: can I receive my transcript?

Requests from current or former students with unmet obligations to the University (e.g., holds) cannot be honored. To resolve financial holds, contact Student Financial Services. To resolve Academic Standing holds, contact Undergraduate Advising and Research.

I am a parent and need to request a transcript: can I do this?

Parents may request transcripts for their student only if the student is under age 18. When a student turns 18, access to his or her educational records becomes legally exclusive to the student.
