New Student Checklist

This is a short list of key tasks you must complete when you arrive.

  1. Get your SUID. Your SUID (Stanford identification number) was provided by your admissions office or department.
  2. Get your SUNet ID. Your SUNet ID (Stanford University Network Identification) is your key to most all Stanford Administrative systems. You probably already created your SUNet ID in order to accept your offer of admission via Axess. To get your SUNet ID, visit the SUNet ID website at: http://sunetid.stanford.edu/.
  3. Get your Stanford ID Card. New students are sent an application form for their Stanford ID Card prior to their first quarter of enrollment. Students who do not receive an application can download a copy or they can obtain their card at the Stanford Card Office after they arrive on campus.
  4. Review the Academic Calendar.  To view the Academic Calendar, click on the “Calendar” Quicklink on the right.
  5. Discover Axess. Axess is the web-based administrative system used for most electronic transactions at Stanford including:
    • Update your addresses, phone, email and emergency contact
    • Enroll in classes
    • Drop classes and change grading basis (where applicable)
    • Evaluate classes
    • Request transcripts
    • Request enrollment certifications
    • View online bill
For an overview of Axess, click on: http://registrar.stanford.edu/Axess/Studenthelp/. To get to Axess, click on the “Axess” quick link in the right column on this page.
  6. Update Personal Info on Axess. On the “Personal Info” tab in Axess, update your:
    • Billing address
    • Permanent (home) address
    • Stanford (local) directory address
    • Email addresses: primary (use your @stanford.edu) and secondary
    • Phone(s)
    • Emergency contact(s)
  7. Review Course Offerings on Axess. On the “Home” tab in Axess, review course offerings by clicking on “Search for Classes.”
  8. View Your University Bill.  Billing and payment services are delivered electronically on a monthly basis through Stanford’s online billing and payment service, Stanford ePay. Bill notification is sent to your email address as recorded in Axess. More information about Stanford ePay may be found at http://stanfordepay.stanford.edu. Monthly bills are generated on the 20th of each month and are due on the 15th of the following month. Click here for tuition charges. For more information, see Overview: University Billing.
