Macintosh Ethernet

The cables required to connect a computer to the network vary from computer to computer. Some may have an Ethernet adapter built in, others may require an external transceiver, while others still might need a PC (PCMCIA) card.

To establish an Ethernet connection, you must reconfigure the IP address on your computer to match the address for the room in which you are attempting to make the connection. A set of configuration files will allow you to easily load the settings for each location without having to type all the information manually. You can also manually configure the TCP/IP settings on your Macintosh (see IP Configuration Quick Reference).

While the network does support Ethernet, it does not support Local Talk connections.

To establish an Ethernet connection, you will need the following items:

• Transceiver (required for some Macintoshes)
• Ethernet patch cable

Instructions

	1. Follow the instructions for setting up the connection between your Macintosh and the SmartPanel.
	2. Plug one end of the Ethernet patch cable (RJ-45 male to RJ-45 male, cat 5 UTP) into the Ethernet jack, and the other into your Macintosh's transceiver (AUI Port to RJ-45).
	If the SmartPanel in the classroom you're using does not have an Ethernet jack, look around the room itself for a TSO (Terminal Service Outlet), usually the orange jack furthest left in a panel usually located near the SmartPanel.
	3. Set up your Macintosh's IP configuration for the classroom you're using.
