*Apply by this deadline to get a first-round draw number; applications are processed during the Waitlist round.
**You must apply by this deadline to maintain your guarantee of housing. |
New 2009-2010!
- Students and groups will be able to list all of their housing choices on their application.
- Draw numbers will be issued in three Tiers instead of preferred and unpreferred years.
- Students who sign up for theme, focus, or co-op houses must meet the eligibility requirements for the house and must participate in activities required by the house program. If they do not meet the eligibility or program requirements, they will be reassigned out of the house during the next possible reassignment round.
- You can find a comprehensive list of changes which affect the 2009-10 Draw at http://draw2009.stanford.edu.

Axess and Who Applies
Students apply through their Axess online accounts.
The students who apply for housing
- are currently enrolled at the Stanford home campus.
- are at Stanford off-campus programs, like Hopkins Marine Station, Stanford-in-Washington, and most Stanford Overseas Studies Centers.
- have taken a leave-of-absence from the Stanford home campus.
NOTE: Co-Terminal Students need to read Eligibility before applying for Undergraduate housing. You may need to live in Graduate Housing if you don’t have an Undergraduate guaranteed year remaining.
How to Apply through Axess
To apply online you will need:
- Your Stanford ID number
- Your Stanford University Network ID (SUNet ID)
- A web browser enabled with cookies and javascript.
To log on to Axess:
- Go to https://axess.stanford.edu.
- Select “Links and Contacts” from the Axess menu bar.
- Select “R&DE Application.”
- Select “Submit application or renew contract” and follow the prompts.

| When To Submit Your Application |
Beginning with the May application deadline, there are three rounds of assignments in obtaining a residence: The Draw, Waitlist, and Walk-ins. Axess begins accepting housing applications in mid-April for Summer Quarter and the following academic year.
Submit your application
- After you have read the entire Undergraduate Apply for Housing web pages, Axess will ask you to confirm that you read these pages.
Make sure
- You check the undergraduate calendar for specific deadlines. If you want to be included in the pool of candidates for Autumn housing or a particular quarter, your application must be on time.
- You have read and understand the Residence Agreement, as you will be held to its terms if you submit an application for housing.
- You select “Assign me to any residence for which I qualify” as your last residence choice if you wish to keep your housing guarantee for the year.
Even if
- You don’t need housing until Winter Quarter or Spring Quarter, you will receive a better chance of assignment to housing that you prefer if you submit your application by the May rather than the October or February deadline.
NOTE: Don’t wait until the last day to apply! Axess allows a limited number of students to log on at one time. The system can slow down during periods of heavy use.

| If You Miss the Deadline(s) |
- If you miss the first-round deadline in May, submit your application for the Waitlist round as soon as possible. Your position on the list depends on the date you apply.
- If you miss BOTH the May application deadline and the Waitlist deadline, you will need to request a paper housing application from the Housing Assignments office. You can attend Walk-in meetings (third round of assignments) either in person or by proxy. At these meetings, remaining vacancies are offered for assignment according to current guarantee status and the date you submitted your application.
- Check undergraduate calendar for Waitlist and Walk-in deadlines.

Don’t Have WEB Access? |
Absentee Paper Application
- Students who are without access to the Web (unable to use Axess) should request and return an absentee housing application. This form is available in printed form, and can also be sent via email as a PDF file.
- To request an absentee application, contact the Housing Assignments office.
- To enter “The Draw”, you must return the completed and signed application to Housing Assignments by the Draw deadline. Any applications that reach housing assignments after the deadline will not be considered until the next assignment round.
You can contact Housing Assignments at (650) 725-2810, by fax at
(650) 723-1297, by e-mail at housingassignments@lists.stanford.edu, or via the US Postal Service at 630 Serra Street, Suite 110, Stanford, CA 94305-6034.
NOTE: For related pages, see Assignment Process and Calendar.

Special Notes To Groups |
- Please read the Group Applicants page before choosing your group name and group password and applying on Axess.
- Meanwhile: Any member of your group can be the first to apply in Axess, and you can also apply on different days.
- But if anyone joins the Waitlist after the May application deadline, individuals need to make a request to Housing Assignments to be put together in a group. If the group is accepted, group members will receive a sequential application number based on the date the last group member applied.
- When you type your group name and password, Axess will either display the current members of the group or inform you that you are creating a new group and ask you to confirm your action.
- If you accidentally type an incorrect group name and create a new group, you will receive a different application number, so type carefully.
- If your group includes absentee applicants, they must list the same group name and group password.
- Helpful Hints:
- Make sure that you communicate with all group members before any member applies.
- Group members who are submitting applications at the same time should allow at least 10 seconds between submissions for the same group (i.e., do not all send your applications at the same moment!).

| Gender-neutral Assignments |
- The Gender-neutral Housing pilot program, originated in 2008, has been made permanent. The full Gender-neutral Housing policy is available here.
- Gender-neutral room assignments are available in Mirrielees, Terra, Narnia, Castaño, Enchanted Broccoli Forest, and the Governor’s Corner Suites.
- Mixed-gender draw groups can now be kept together, though the use of group retention, in every residence assigned through the draw (except Roth).
|
| Terms & Conditions |
Applying for a housing assignment includes acceptance of the terms and conditions of the Residence Agreement. The Residence Agreement is a legally binding document, which includes the following:
- Length of agreement,
- rates, payments, and billing,
- unauthorized occupancy,
- cancellation, and
- date by which student must take occupancy to fulfill contract.
