Blackwelder and Quillen Renovations
The apartments in Blackwelder and two floors of Quillen will be renovated this summer into two-bedroom efficiency apartments to greatly improve the overall living environment and comfort for students in one-bedroom, double occupancy apartments. We are improving the design to transform them into more equitable and appropriately-arranged spaces for two single students. The current living-room area will be enclosed to create a private bedroom with an additional built-in closet. Locks will be installed in each of the bedroom doors.
The kitchens will be completely re-arranged into a more open, L-shaped configuration with new cabinets, countertops, shelving, accessories, lighting, and small eating area. The hall closet, traditionally used by the living room resident, will now become a common hallway storage closet.
In addition, we will provide greatly expanded and upgraded common spaces on the ground floor. Included are a brand new, upgraded multi-purpose media / assembly room, great room / lounge, group study room (s), and games room.
Students who live in the one-bedroom, double occupancy apartments will likely spend two weeks in a temporary apartment within the building while renovations take place.
Crothers Memorial Hall closed this Summer
Crothers Memorial Hall is not going to be offered as a choice for this summer. It is closed for extensive renovations. Crothers and Crothers Memorial Halls will reopen for undergraduate students in 2009-10. |
