Apply for reassignment

Liliore Green Rains Houses
Getting Reassigned

You may apply for a reassignment to a preferred choice in the same category of housing or a different category of housing if you have had a change in your family or marital status.

Reassignment opportunities vary each term and may not be available if we cannot first accommodate students without housing.

Reassignment To A Preferred Choice

If you’ve received an assignment in the Autumn Lottery but would prefer to live in another residence, you can try for reassignment to another location within the same housing category by joining the Autumn Waiting List.

Conditions:

  1. You may not join the Waiting List for reassignment if you have refused your Lottery assignment.
  2. You will only be considered for reassignment to the residences you list on your reassignment request.
  3. If you are not reassigned, you will retain your original Lottery assignment.
  4. If you are reassigned, your original assignment is simultaneously reassigned to another student.
  5. If you secure an especially early move-in date (Visit Moving in early about arranging earlier arrival), your reassignment residence may not be able to honor that same, earlier move-in date.
  6. If you refuse your reassignment, you will be charged a cancellation fee, and you may not reapply for the same category of housing until all other students have been offered an assignment.
  7. If, as a new graduate student, you refuse your assignment, you will lose your guarantee of housing for the year.

To request reassignment in Axess for autumn, you must:

  1. Join the Waiting List for reassignment by the July 5 deadline.
  2. Select the “Accept this assignment but wish to be considered for reassignment” option.
  3. List the residences for which you want to be considered.

Mid-year reassignments for during Autumn, Winter and Spring Quarters

If you are a single student, you may request reassignment to any other vacant room once demand for single student housing has been met. Look for reassignment information on the Latest News section (usually the first week of each quarter except summer) and file a request to join the reassignment list. Reassignments for Winter or Spring Quarters are made on a space-available basis, and are not guaranteed.

Conditions:
  • Late applicants without housing will be assigned to residences before students seeking reassignment.
  • Your position on the reassignment list will depend on the date you submit the reassignment request.
  • You will only be considered for reassignment to the residences you list in your reassignment request.
  • If you are reassigned, your rent will be adjusted according to the date the new room or apartment is available.
  • The administrative fee for reassignment is $200.
Reassignment Due To Changes In Student Status

You may apply for only one type of housing (single, couple, or student with children) for a given quarter. However, if your status changes (i.e., from single student to couple, or student with children) you must apply for housing appropriate to your new status. Visit: Change or withdraw your application.

Students may not house children in residences for couples or single students. All reassignments are made on the basis of availability, Waiting List application number, and pregnancy due date. If you live on campus and request reassignment to housing for students with children, you have a priority over off-campus applicants without housing guarantees, but reassignment isn’t guaranteed.

Note:

If you join a Waiting List for winter or spring due to a change in your marital or family status, and you are reassigned, you must accept your reassignment. If not, you are charged a $100-$400 cancellation fee, your name is removed from the Waiting List, and you remain responsible for room rent the remainder of the academic year.
