On-Campus Apartments

Couples without children and students with children live in Escondido Village, a neighborhood of approximately 3,200 people that was originally built in phases between 1959 and 1972. Village residents include approximately 500 couples without children and 300 students with children. Couples without children live in one-bedroom high-rise and townhouse apartments (most are in the high-rises). There are eight two-bedroom loft apartments also available to couples who are both enrolled matriculated Stanford students. Students assigned to loft apartments are required to move to other housing if a change in their eligibility occurs.

Students with children live in one-, two- and three- bedroom townhouse apartments. Most student with children apartments are grouped in neighborhoods made up of other students with children, however, some apartments are located in single student neighborhoods due to the volume of moves each year. You must have one or two children in occupancy to be eligible for a two-bedroom apartment and two or three children for a three-bedroom apartment. Single parents with one child may request assignment to one-bedroom low-rise apartments.

Although you are unable to view your specific apartment in advance, some sample floorplans are available on our web site in the Residence Tour section. Couples without children and students with children may apply for either furnished or unfurnished apartments (see pages 41-42). There is no price difference between the furnished and unfurnished apartments. One-bedroom apartments are approximately 500 square feet, two-bedrooms 650 square feet, three-bedrooms 800 square feet, and four-bedrooms 900 square feet. Some of the one-bedroom apartments have balconies. There is one bathroom in each apartment. If you plan to have two children living in the same bedroom, you should be aware that the bedrooms are very small and cannot comfortably accommodate two children. However, if you would like to have an additional twin bed provided to you, please contact the Escondido Village Service Center at evcouplesadmin@lists.stanford.edu).

An after-school program for children in kindergarten through second grade, a nursery school, childcare programs, a community activity center, multi-use cottage room, and picnic area are located in the Village. The Escondido Elementary School, part of the Palo Alto Unified School District, is located adjacent to the Village and enrolls students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Two nonprofit organizations the Volunteer Rental Co-op in the Village and the Loan Closet at Bechtel International Center rent a variety of items useful to residents, including bicycles, baby seats and carriages, kitchenware, and bedding.

Off-Campus Apartments (four complexes assigned in the Lottery)

Stanford began leasing off-campus apartments to sublet at subsidized rates to graduate students through the Community Housing office. We are including four of the closest off-campus complexes as options in the on-campus housing Lottery Oak Creek, Seven Oaks, Sharon Green, and Stanford West. Assignments to these complexes will be made by specific choice only, not through the final choice "assign me to any residence for which I am eligible." For more information on these complexes see "Near-Campus Residence Option". WARNING! We do not currently have very many spaces in the off-campus apartments for couples. If you do not also apply for on-campus options you may not be assigned
