Arranging to Take Over the Lease on Your Current Apartment:

Residents of Oak Creek can contact Jackie Tuato'o at the Oak Creek administration office (650-327-1600) to inquire about renting at Oak Creek. If you are currently living in an Oak Creek apartment that has already been renovated over the past 5 years or so, you may be able to rent your apartment directly from Oak Creek. You would have to negotiate the rent and the terms of the lease with the complex. The new lease would need to start immediately after Stanford's lease ends. If you are currently living in an Oak Creek apartment that has not been renovated, you would not be able to rent your current apartment from Oak Creek, as they need to complete their renovation project. You may, however, be able to rent a different apartment. Oak Creek also has studio and 1-bedroom apartments available.

Residents of Stanford West will only be able to join the waiting list at Stanford West if they will become Stanford employees, postdoctoral scholars, medical residents, or visiting researchers by the end of Stanford's lease on the apartment. Unfortunately, Stanford students fall into the 4th priority level of eligibility to rent at Stanford West, and the waiting list has not reached the 4th priority level since the complex opened. If you believe that you will be eligible to rent directly from Stanford West, you should join their waiting list now.

We have alerted the complex managers that you may approach them about this. You would need to speak to them to negotiate a rent amount and contract length. As you know, Stanford has been subsidizing your rent, so the market rent on the apartment is substantially higher than what you are paying now. The date of the transfer would be the last date of your contract with Community Housing or the last date of Stanford's lease on the apartment, whichever is later. If you do arrange to rent the apartment on your own, please file a Termination of Occupancy Form, noting that you have made these arrangements and the requested date of lease transfer.
