Finding housing is seldom an easy task,
and finding short-term housing (for 3 months or less) can
be especially difficult. The following list of resources
and suggestions was created to help facilitate your search.
Browse
through the listings in the temporary category in the
off-campus housing data base periodically to see if there
are any listings which meet your needs and are available
for the dates you will be in the area. Do not, however,
limit your search to the temporary listings. Sometimes there
are listings which are not in the temporary category, but
can be taken short term - check the lease terms section
and read through remarks section of each long-term ad that
interests you to see if there are any comments such as "short
term possible" or "short or long term okay".
Some
local apartment complexes/residence hotels offer
studio and one bedroom apartments on a weekly or monthly
basis. You will find listings for a few such places in the
temporary category of the off-campus housing data base as
well.
Although
staying in a hotel or motel for more than a few nights
can be quite costly, many area hotels and motels offer discounted
weekly rates. You can browse through the local hotels &
motels list to see which hotels and motels offer these special
rates.
Place
a housing needed ad in the Stanford Report (the faculty/staff
newspaper) 723-9514 or the Stanford Daily (the student newspaper)
723-2556 at least one month before you plan to arrive.
Visiting
medical students can contact Zera Murphy of the Medical
School Student Affairs Office by calling (650) 498-4945
or by sending an e-mail to zera.murphy@stanford.edu. Landlords
wishing to rent short-term rooms to visiting medical students
sometimes contact Ms. Murphy in order to be put in touch
with medical students needing housing.
Try
a corporate rental service, but be aware that while
these services can make finding a short-term rental very
easy, they can also make it very costly. These services
ordinarily cater to professionals who are in town on business,
so the rentals are generally very luxurious and often include
many amenities and maid service. The following list was
taken from the local phone book for your convenience. Stanford
Community Housing Services does not guarantee or recommend
the quality of any of these services.
