The Stanford area, with its mild climate, beautiful scenery, and abundant cultural and community resources, is a very popular place to live. Vacancies in some areas are in short supply, and rents are high.

If you are looking for housing at the start of the academic year, try to arrive in late August or early September to avail yourself of the greatest selection and least competition. Allow yourself at least one to two weeks to find housing. Be aware that units are often not advertised until just before they are available. It does not, therefore, help to come in June to look for a place in September.

Finding a place takes time and effort. You can make the task easier by taking advantage of the resources listed at left.
