Be aware that very few places will allow pets -- especially dogs. Those that do accept pets may require an additional pet deposit or monthly pet rent. One thing that you can do to increase the likelihood of finding a place to live with your pet is to obtain written references from past landlords. This will help prospective landlords feel safe in renting to you and your pet.
You should also check the Humane Society of Silicon Valley web site. It has tips for finding pet-friendly housing.
