Stanford Dining participates in many local charity events. In 2003, Stanford Dining launched the Dining Neighbors Program as a way for employees to give back to the community. The Dining Neighbors Program works with foodservice supply vendors to secure food donations and all the ingredients necessary to prepare the meals.
Volunteer chefs, food service workers, and students then prepare a delicious, nutritionally balanced meal served by administrators, staff, student leaders and other volunteers including the Stanford Police and Fire Department. The guests vary by event, including an event for over 100 children from among the neediest families in the community, an event for approximately 150 homeless people in Menlo Park , and two events for the 120 residents of the Clara-Mateo Alliance shelter.
