Institutional Research at Stanford

Institutional Research, or IR, facilitates and provides context for institutional decision making at Stanford by providing analytical support and facilitating access to data.  IR is also responsible for conducting policy analysis and social science research, and publishing reports that provide insight into the performance of the institution.

The tools used to provide information to decision-makers are:

Institutional Research at Stanford is conducted and coordinated by staff across the campus community. IR&DS, as an arm of the Provost's Office, typically handles requests from many central offices, especially requests involving faculty and financial information. In addition, IR&DS works closely with staff in other offices to ensure coverage across a variety of domains. IR&DS often receives requests that are better answered by other offices such as Financial Aid or the Registrar's Office. In those cases, we will refer the inquiry to the appropriate person and ensure that the request is handled.
