Research Interests

My interests are in the area of cosmology and the large-scale structure of the Universe. My work addresses the "big questions" facing contemporary cosmology: Is the universe flat? Is there a non-zero cosmological constant? Did structure in the contemporary universe emerge from the very nearly uniform primordial distribution of matter solely via the process of gravitational instability? What is the nature of the "dark matter" believed to constitute 90 percent of the total mass of the universe? I pursue these questions by observing the distribution and peculiar velocities of galaxies. The methodology is primarily observational; I obtain and analyze data from large optical and infrared ground-based telescopes.

Specialty: Large Scale Structure

Hello Everyone,

I just got off the phone with Ellen Schneider.  She asked me to tell you
how much she appreciated your kind thoughts and your well wishes for her
and her children.  She found them very comforting during this difficult
time.  She has set July 9th as the day to have Jeff Willick's memorial
service and she will call again as soon as she has the location and the
time of the service finalized.

Jeff recently gave a very nice lecture (for the Wonderfest meeting) that
was videoed and is available on line.  Charlie Marcus wrote to say that he
watched it yesterday and it was good for him to hear Jeff's very
characteristic voice. Here's is the web site that Charlie shared with us if
you want to listen to it.

To the Physics community and other friends of Jeff Willick,

The Stanford Physics Department has established a memorial
fund for Jeff Willick's family. If you would like to make a
donation, please send a check, payable to the Jeffrey Willick
Memorial Fund, to:

   Stanford Federal Credit Union

Thank you very much,
