At our Commencement ceremony last June, eleven seniors,
five of whom graduated with honors and three with distinction,
were presented with their Bachelor's degree in Physics. Two
graduate students received their Master's degree, and twelve
their doctorate. A number of student awards were also presented
at the ceremony. These awards include the Rebecca Carrington
prize, given to the undergraduate judged to be the most outstanding
physics student in terms of scholarship, teaching and departmental
service; it was shared by Olivia White and Lukasz Zielinski.
The David Levine award, given to the outstanding Junior Physics
major, was shared by Alex Maloney, Randy True and Dan Podolsky.
The Paul H. Kirkpatrick Award, presented to the Physics graduate
student who has demonstrated excellence in teaching, was given
to Dennis Ugolini. In addition, one of our graduating seniors,
Brian Kaczynski, was given a California Microwave design award.
Our congratulations to the class of 1997.
