Thanks very much to those of you who attended our Physics alumni reunion reception, held on Friday, October 13, 2006, as part of the Reunion Homecoming Weekend, October 12-15, 2006. The Physics department reception was attended by approximately 35 physics alumni, in addition to a number of Physics faculty, staff and current students. Professors Stan Wojcicki, Patricia Burchat, Bob Wagoner, Peter Michelson, Sarah Church, and Giorgio Gratta were happy to chat with some of their former students and colleagues.

The celebratory event provided another opportunity for alumni, faculty, and staff to get together, and we were pleased to present our new Physics and Astrophysics building to the attendees.  It was wonderful to catch up with former students and a few of their families, and we hope that you will enjoy viewing these pictures of the event. Please look for announcements of future alumni events, and plan to attend!

2006 Reunion

Dear Physics Alumni,

On behalf of the Physics Department, I wish to cordially invite you to attend a special physics alumni reunion reception on the Stanford campus during Reunion Homecoming Weekend.

If you are celebrating a reunion year in 2006 and would like more details on the Reunion Homecoming events and lectures, please go to the reunion website: http://www.stanfordalumni.org to see a complete schedule. The site gives the schedules for “Classes without Quizzes,” which includes two presentations by our Physics faculty. On Thursday evening, October 12, Prof. Roger Romani will conduct two tours of the Stanford Observatory, beginning at 7:45 PM.  Then on Friday, October 13 at 3:15 PM, Prof. Patricia Burchat will give a talk entitled, “Dark Matter, Dark Energy:  Mysteries of the Universe.”  We hope you will attend one or both of these presentations (see alumni website for complete information and faculty bios).

On Friday, October 13, from 5:30-6:30 PM, the Physics Department will host a special reception for all Physics alumni in the Varian Physics lobby.  Please stop by for some refreshments and meet up with your classmates and our physics faculty.  You may find some of your student-era professors at this reception.  We will have tours of the Varian labs, as well as tours of our new Physics and Astrophysics building, next to Varian Physics.  We hope that you will join us for what promises to be a very enjoyable occasion.
