All degree candidates who wish to
participate in the Commencement ceremony must arrive by 8:45 a.m. in
cap and gown at their respective assembly areas (baccalaureates at Gate
1, advanced degrees at Masters Grove) . Please visit the

University ceremony is at Stanford Stadium, 9:30–11:30 am (No tickets
are required. Gates open at 8:00 am.)

The Commencement procession will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the official
ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. This year’s Commencement speaker will
be Anthony M. Kennedy, associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, a
Stanford alumnus, and a long-time legal educator. President Hennessy
will also address the assemblage, and the Cuthbertson, Gores, and
Dinkelspiel awards will be presented. Degrees will be conferred,
however, no diplomas will be awarded at this ceremony. Please see the

Following the University ceremony, diplomas will be distributed in the
Applied Physics/Physics Department ceremony Hewlett
Teaching Center, 370 Serra Mall.
Please walk from the stadium to the teaching center for light
refreshments and then find a seat in Room 200. Our departmental
diploma award ceremony will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Physics and Applied Physics faculty will present diplomas for Applied
Physics and Physics graduates, and special student awards will be
announced.
Following this ceremony, at approximately 1:30 PM, a lunch reception
till be held in the courtyard between Varian
Physics and the Physics and
