Sports - New and Old Maloney

Stanford has a new field hockey facility where the old Maloney soccer field was, next to Sunken Diamond. The artificial surface field conforms to that used by most of Stanford's competitors in the East. The football team also uses the site to prepare for away games against opponents with similar turf. The new field was made possible in part by a $500,000 gift from alumna Kathy Levinson and her partner, Jennifer. Soccer moves to new Maloney Fields. Pre-cast concrete bleachers that seat 2,000 have been installed as well as lights that meet NCAA specifications, a new scoreboard and message center, plus adjacent practice fields. The soccer stadium, built where former intramural and tailgating areas were, is named for Harry Maloney, a coach from 1911 to 1942.
