ATHLETIC BOARD AWARDS
tanford's top Athletic Board honor, the Al Masters Award, went this year
to Kristin Folkl, women's basketball and volleyball, and Tom Wilkens,
swimming. The Masters Award is given to athletes who attain the highest
standards of athletic performance, leadership and academic achievement.
The Donald Kennedy Award, for a senior athlete with excellent academics,
strong athletic ability and commitment to community service, went to
synchronized swimmer Megan Fix. Other honorees:
Biff Hoffman Award, most outstanding male senior: Paul Goldstein,
tennis. Stanford Athletic Board Award, most outstanding female senior:
Julie Scott, tennis.
Jake Gimbel Award, male senior with best competitive attitude: Jay
Pecci, baseball. Pam Strathairn Award, female senior with best
competitive attitude: Vanessa Nygaard, basketball.
Block S Honors Award for senior letter winners with highest GPA: Jeffrey
Szekeres, soccer, 3.97 GPA; and Sarna Renfro, cross-country, 3.87 GPA.
Conference Athletes of the Year, for distinguished performance in
conference competition: Jeff Austin, baseball, and Tracye Lawyer, soccer
and track.
Block S Awards for outstanding juniors: Art Lee, basketball; Joel
Kribel, golf; Heather Pease, synchronized swimming; Brad Hauser,
cross-country and track; and Felicia Zimmermann, fencing. Outstanding
sophomores: Catherine Fox, swimming; Larissa Fontaine, gymnastics; Bob
and Mike Bryan, tennis; Mark Madsen, basketball; and Troy Walters,
football. Outstanding freshmen: Misty Hyman, swimming; Eric Tribbett,
fencing; and Adam Zapala, soccer.
