Michael Kirst, professor emeritus of education and of business administration, and state Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, will present an overview of problems facing the financing of California's K-12 schools at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, in the School of Education's Cubberley Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Kirst also will discuss the findings of a recent school finance study and the possibilities of organizing a political coalition that would support finance reform. Both speakers will comment on Proposition 88, a statewide parcel tax to provide additional funding to public schools that will be on the Nov. 7 ballot. "Financing California Schools: Barriers and Possibilities," part of the Cubberley Lecture series, is presented by the School of Education and the Haas Center for Public Service.
