Rotary International
Scholarship
- Deadline for submission is April 8th, 2005
- Eligibility requirements include:
- Residing in district 5170
- Being 18 years of age or older
- Having two years of college or professional
experience
- Not being a member of Rotary or related to a
Rotarian, and being a citizen in a country that sponsors a Rotary Club
- Scholarships are for 3 month, 6 month, one year, and
two year scholarships ranging from $13,000 to $25,000.
2005 James
Redford Award
- $500 Cash Prize
- James Redford is the son of actor Robert Redford
- Applicants must write a critical, cohesive 500-1000
word essay
discussing a medical ethics dilemma. Essay Prompt online

Rodney
T. Mathews Memorial Scholarship for California Indians
- Provide three awards of $10,000 each to support
California Indian students who want to continue their education.
Scholarships shall be granted to eligible applicants on a yearly basis
(as long as there are funds available). Each award is for a 12-month
period, renewable for a second year pending demonstration of
exceptional progress.
Accenture
Foundation Scholarship for Minorities
- Applicants to this program must be African American,
Hispanic American, Native American, or Asian American.
- A U.S. citizen, permanent resident, asylee or refugee.
- Enrolled in at least the third year of course work by
the fall semester 2005 in a full-time undergraduate program in
engineering (electrical, industrial, mechanical, or systems are
preferred), computer science, information systems (accounting,
business, computer, management and related), decision or management
sciences, or other programs whose curricula are equivalent to the above.
- Above-average in academic performance. Generally,
this means that the applicant is at least a “B” student; however, the
difficulty of curriculum concentration and course selection will be
considered.
- Proficient in quantitative skills as evidenced
through quantitative course work and/or exams.
- Partners, employees, and children of partners and
employees of Accenture are not eligible to apply.

- Schoalrship Amount: $5, 000
- Applicants must currently be in their final year of
college or a technical program, and must be able to verify their status
as having aged out of the US foster care system.

Fellowships
IBM Ph.D.
Fellowship Program
- IBM Ph.D. Fellowship nominations may be made by
faculty members from September 20 to November 1, 2004
- The IBM Ph.D. Fellowship Program honors exceptional
Ph.D. students in the array of disciplines fundamental to innovation
and on demand business, including: business, chemistry, computer
science, electrical engineering, materials science, mathematics,
mechanical engineering, and physics, as well as emerging technical
fields, such as autonomic computing, nanotechnology, Grid computing,
and services management, operations, research, and services science.
- IBM values diversity in the workplace and encourages
nominations of women, minorities and all who contribute to that
diversity.
- Award recipients will be finalized in early February,
2005 followed by letters to all participants.
- All supporting documents for the fellowship, such as
student's resume, and endorsement by the department head as well as the
nominator's recommendation must be included in the nomination form
- Students must be enrolled full-time in a college or
university Ph.D. program, and they should have completed at least one
year of study in their doctoral program at the time of their nomination
- IBM Ph.D. Fellowships are awarded worldwide.
- IBM Ph.D. Fellows are awarded tuition, fees, and a
stipend of $17,500 (US) for a nine-month academic year 2005/2006.
- All IBM Ph.D. Fellows are matched with an IBM Mentor
according to their technical interests, and they are encouraged to
participate in a summer internship.

internship

Minority Undergraduate Research
Fellowship
- Deadline:
December 17, 2004
- Caltech’s MURF program provides support for talented
undergraduates to spend a summer working in a research laboratory on
the Caltech campus
- The MURF program aims to increase the representation
of underrepresented students in science and engineering graduate
programs and to make Caltech’s programs more visible to students not
traditionally exposed to Caltech
- The program supports Caltech’s commitment to training
a diverse set of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)
leaders
- Applications will be considered from eligible
students without regard to gender, race, or ethnicity
- Applications are encouraged from students who wish to
work in a modern academic research laboratory under the guidance of
experienced scientists and engineers
- The program will expose students to the excitement
and opportunities of a research career
- This experience will provide excellent preparation
for students interested in subsequently pursuing a Ph.D.
- Objectives
- Expose high achieving students to educational
opportunities at Caltech
- Provide opportunities for students not generally
familiar with Caltech to experience the research environment at Caltech
- Increase critical mass of underrepresented graduate
students at Caltech
- Train a diverse set of STEM leaders Promote
awareness of diversity among students, faculty, and staff
- Provide opportunities for students who come from
challenging backgrounds and must overcome significant barriers to
pursue their goals of becoming a scientist or engineer.
