| Hui 'O Hawai'i
Hawai'i Club at the Stanford Powwow, May 2001
Aloha everyone! Now that we Hawaiians have gotten over our first taste of the Mainland, we have actually gotten organized. Hui `O Hawai'i was reactivated by two first year students, Scott Shishido and David Hu (who also served as the president and financial officer, respectively) during the 2000-01 academic year. The purpose of Hui is to bring the Native Hawaiian culture to Stanford. We went to a Fiji concert in San Francisco in February! A van was rented from the Haas Center for Public Service in order to provide transportation to those unluck few without cars--in other words, the freshmen. Overall, the concert was an enjoyable evening for those who attended, and we are looking forward to other Polynesian artists visiting the Bay Area. (Hui is constantly looking for suggestions for possible activities, so if anyone has any ideas, please contact us.) The Hawai'i Club also diligently rehearsed numerous dances and songs in preparation for its Annual Luau on May 6. (A week later, the Hawai'i Club performed at the 30th Annual Stanford Powwow!) While Hui `O Hawai'i focuses more on the Native Hawaiian culture, the Hawai'i Club focuses moe on the hybrid culture existing in Hawai'i known as the local culture. Both clubs are open to any individual interested in experiencing the lifestyles existing in Hawai'i today. Well folks, mahalo (thank you) for your time, and malama pono (take care). Aloha a hui hou (until we meet again, aloha), The Flyin' Hawaiian
