Andrew Wong

I am interested in the interplay between the social and the cognitive aspects of meaning. Using ethnographic, sociolinguistic and experimental methods, I have pursued this interest through research on meaning/lexical acquisition and on the semantic variation and change of social category labels. In addition, my scholarly work deals with issues such as multilingualism, language planning, language ideologies, and language, gender and sexuality in Chinese cultures and societies (i.e. Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Mainland China).
