COMPASS Philosophy Statement

 

Stanford University believes that career development is a vital component of any employee's growth. The employee is the driver of their career process, be that enrichment in their current position, a lateral move to another position, a promotion, a new occupation, more education, or retirement. Stanford, as the employer, is committed to providing the tools, resources, and opportunities to support employees in their career process.

Stanford University, like many other organizations, provides a career mosaic of development opportunities for employees, rather than structured career paths. Employees need to identify and drive their career process and plans in a self-reliant manner.

The COMPASS Program is designed to:

  • Help employees navigate their career process by providing classes, tools, and resources targeted to support all stages in the career management process; and
  • Help the organization with its recruitment and retention efforts.
