Program offerings are targeted for Stanford’s Administrative Associates (A1–A5). The Program's various offerings assist employees in developing and enhancing skills to effectively address the issues and challenges that are specific to the administrative support professional.  The Program encourages the sharing of best practices and resources as well as providing opportunities for informal networking with peers who may perform similar job functions on campus.

To develop core competencies and skills such as communications, time management, or dealing with change, AAs should look for courses under the Professional Effectiveness courses.

PROGRAM SESSIONS

Pre-Program Briefing: Friday, October 2, 10:30am-Noon

Get acquainted with others in the program!

Workshop 1: Process Improvement for Process Administrators, Friday, October 9, 8:30-Noon

Administrative staff typically work heavily with processes, so ensuring you understand how to identify bottlenecks, how to effectively communicate process problems to management, and how to identify Quick Wins to shore up broken processes could be beneficial to your role as well as your entire group.

Workshop 2: Communicating Effectively: Understanding Style Differences, Friday, October 16, 8:30-Noon

Identifying your own communication style preferences enables you to then work effectively with others who may have a different style, because you can choose to demonstrate style flexibility to reach the desired outcome.

Workshop 3: Communicating Effectively: Everyday Negotiation Skills, Friday, October 23, 8:30-Noon

Building on your knowledge of communication styles, use proven methods to communicate when there are conflicting deadlines, ambiguous priorities, or other day-to-day situations where negotiating while preserving the work relationship is crucial.

Workshop 4: Creating Effective Organizational Systems, Friday, October 30, 8:30-Noon

The use of “systems” in the workplace helps you to stay focused and on track and supports effective interactions with your supervisor or others whose work you support. Taking a systematic approach to your work enables your successful management of projects, enables you to easily identify work or project status, and supports your ability to report problems or summarize accomplishments.

Workshop 5: Understanding Where you Fit: Job Classification and Enrichment, November 6, 8:30-Noon

Gain an overview of Stanford's classification and pay structure and get an introduction to Stanford's Career Lattice. An understanding of these topics will help you find ways to enrich your job and to identify development opportunities targeted to your objectives. Staff in the Stanford Compensation and the Office of Staff Employment departments will present.

Closing Ceremony: Friday, November 13, 8:30-10:30am

Celebrate your accomplishment!

NOTE:  Participants must be able to participate in all scheduled program meetings to receive a certificate of completion.Due to the comprehensive nature of this program, enrollment requires the additional signed approval of your supervisor via a notification letter to be sent after registration in STARS is completed. Registration is limited to 20 participants.
