Lecturer in Persian

The Language Center at Stanford University invites applications for a full-time, three-year position of Lecturer in Persian beginning September 2012. The position is renewable. Minimum qualifications are an MA in Persian language, linguistics, or literature; Ph.D. preferable. Experience teaching Persian language at the university level is a must. Candidates should be able to teach Persian language courses at all levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) and possess native or near-native fluency in Persian and an excellent command of English. The successful candidate will be expected to build up and coordinate the existing Persian language program at Stanford. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with Persian content faculty already at Stanford; these faculty will be heavily involved in mentoring and working with this lecturer.  The content faculty and the director of the Language Center will consult together on the choice of Persian teaching materials and pedagogical approach. The vision is to create a Persian language program, corollary to the other language programs at Stanford, that serves the needs of those intending to conduct research in the language. Knowledge of proficiency principles and a commitment to pursuing ACTFL OPI/WPT tester/rater certifications are a plus. The salary is competitive.
