Welcome to FLTAing at Stanford

This wiki is especially made as a means of communication between us, the current FLTAs at Stanford, and all of you the next lucky group of people! There are so many things that we would like to share you so that you will have a fabulous and productive year ahead. This information is collected based on our experience and aims at giving you an early start that will save you some time by helping to avoid making the same mistakes that we may have stumbled across during our program.

The main purpose of this program, as you may have heard over time, is to build mutual understanding between the country you represent and United States. However, as we go through the program up to this point of time, we realize that it is more than just your represented country and United States, the program has helped us understand more about the culture and the people of other FLTAs in the same host institution and this could be the best part of the program. This truly is an international experience!

Having the chance to be an FLTA has been a great opportunity for all of us, and to have this opportunity at Stanford University, ranked forth best university in the United States has make it an even greater experience. The university is so diverse that you will never feel out of place - there is something for everybody here. The fact that there are a lot of activities happening at the university everyday gives you a vast array of opportunities to do so many different things that you may never have had the chance to even think about or experience before. The university is also rich in resources that enable you to do more professionally and facilitate all your dreams. The resource and facilities available will help you to be more creative and develop yourself professionally and personally.

The Language Center usually coordinates a number of teaching workshops throughout the year and you are strongly encouraged to participate. These workshops are important not only to the development of your teaching skills here at Stanford but also to help generate ideas about what you are capable of doing to be a more professional academic. The Language Center will guarantee you make the most of your abilities while you are here by offering the same opportunities to improve as the other language instructors

The feeling of excitement and anxiety maybe dominant at this moment, however we would like to remind you that none of the mentioned above will happen to you without your participation. The host institution, in this case, Stanford University is never going to feed you all these tremendous opportunities. They provide them and it depends on you to be willing to take part or just live the day like you have lived it before - the only difference being that you are living it at Stanford. Your mentor, Dr. Eva Prionas, will support you and guide you to reach all of your dreams when you are here but again it is up to you to seek it out and live it.

On the pages in this wiki are the things that you need to be aware of, this should help you to have a good start in this program. Everything written here is based on our experience in our year on the program. Some of the things might change based on the policy that applies at the time.

Enjoy your program and make sure it reflects the best of you as it should.
