Program Schedule

The Orientation program provides an overview of the Fulbright goals and traditions and aims to instill a Fulbright identity among FLTAs. It introduces participants to the role of all agencies and institutions involved in their experience here and the resources they provide. FLTAs are introduced to information and insights necessary for them to ease their transition into the US academic culture and adjust to different educational norms and practices. The program includes speakers with a variety of backgrounds including Education, Foreign Language Education, Cross Cultural Communication, Technology & Media, and Area Studies.

Day One - Thursday, August 27

10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Arrival and Check-in at Xanadu (residence)
Special arrangements will be made for those checking in after 6:00pm.
~3:00 p.m. Campus Walking Tour / Scavenger Hunt (optional)
Free time to explore campus on your own.
5:45 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Dinner (served in Florence Moore Hall)

Day Two - Friday, August 28

1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Course design, objectives and standards, etc. Microteaching sessions (Part A)

3:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Course design, objectives and standards, etc. Microteaching sessions (Part B)

Program Highlights

Thursday, August 27 - Self-guided Campus Walking Tour / Scavenger Hunt

~ 3:00 p.m. Since many of you will be arriving early in the day, we thought you might be interested in doing a self-guided walking tour of campus. We will organize an optional walking tour / scavenger hunt for those interested. Although it is optional, we are sure you will want to participate as there will be prizes!
NOTE: Starting time subject to change.

Friday, August 28 - Tour of San Francisco

11:45 a.m. - After your morning sessions, we will be taking you on a fun-filled, action-packed trip to San Francisco! Specific itinerary to be determined, but the tour WILL include a ferry trip to Alcatraz Island to tour the infamous federal prison (now a museum). If you are not sure what Alcatraz is or if you would like more information, click here. You might even want to watch the movie Escape from Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood. We are sure you won't be disappointed in this tour, so don't miss the bus! The tour bus will pick everyone up at Xanadu and will leave at 11:45. Please be ready to go by 11:40 so we have time to get everyone on the bus. Dinner will be delivered to Xanadu in the evening after returning from the tour.

Sunday, August 30 - Farewell Reception

6:30 p.m. - We'd like to send you off with a nice celebration, so we have planned a dinner party at the Stanford Grill at the Golf Course. Dinner and drinks will be served and all FLTAs, guest speakers and orientation staff are invited. Transportation to the Stanford Grill will be provided. The bus will leave from the house at 5:45.
