Configuring SecureFX 6.0

SecureFX is a Windows application that provides encrypted FTP connections for transferring files using the Secure FTP (SFTP) protocol. It also provides improved security during login. SecureFX lets you choose between SFTP, standard FTP, and secure data transfer with FTP over an encrypted SSH2 connection using the Secure Shell (SSH) protocol. SecureFX automates secure file transfers, performs unattended file transfers, synchronizes local and remote files, and performs server-to-server transfers. This document describes how to install and configure SecureFX for the Stanford environment. For more information, see the SecureFX online help.

Note: The SecureFX 6.0 installer includes preconfigured sessions named Cardinal, Spires, and Vine. Any sessions using these names that were created in an earlier version of SecureFX on your PC will be overwritten. If you have customized sessions named Cardinal, Spires, or Vine, you may want to rename them before installing SecureFX 6.0

Installing SecureFX

  1. Download and run the SecureFX installer file.

Note: The installer file installs both SecureFX and SecureCRT.
  2. When the Welcome page is displayed, click Next to continue.

Connecting to Cardinal, Spires, and Vine

The Essential Stanford Software version of SecureFX includes pre-configured SSH2 connections to Cardinal, Spires, and Vine—the most widely used IT Services-supported servers.

Note: If you use both file transfer and terminal emulation, SecureFX and SecureCRT share session settings. Configuring a connection to a particular server only needs to be done once in order for the selected server to be continuously available to both programs.
  1. Start SecureFX.

  2. The Connect window should display. If not, go to the File menu, and click Connect.

  3. Select either Cardinal, Spires, or Vine. Then, click the Connect button.

  4. The first time you connect to a new session, the New Host Key window may appear. Click Accept & Save.

Note: Cardinal and Vine are aliases for a number of Stanford servers. Therefore, you may see this message again when you connect to the site.
