Through May 2007, IT Services invites the Stanford community to test a revised front-end of the department’s web site. The test site is located at itstest.stanford.edu.

The new layout emphasizes links to help resources, dynamic browsing and searching of products and services, and quick access to order-links. A database back-end powers an option to login via WebAuth to view a service list tailored to your primary Stanford affiliation (i.e., staff, faculty, student) or defined role. Defined roles currently include Local Network Administrator, Resident Computer Consultant, and Department Contact with OrderIT site access). More details about the new features are provided below.

The pilot web site consists of a new department home page and catalog browse and search pages; if you follow a link from one of the test pages to a “live” service, project, or organization page, you will need to use your browser’s “back” button to return to the test site.

Whenever you have a comment or observation about the pilot site, please share it with us using the provided feedback form (there’s a “feedback form” link in the upper right area of every one of the pilot pages). If you request a response, we’ll get back to you within 48 hours. We’re especially interested in hearing from you regarding services that you think are missing from the list, the relevance of highlighted services on the browse and search pages, and ways that the layout helps or hinders reading or finding information on the page(s).

Note: Besides the site-wide navigation bar, the features of the new home page and browse/search pages in the pilot site (described below) do not affect the layout or content of IT Services’ individual service or project web sites.
