Guide for Reviewers & Testers
Through May 2007, IT Services invites the Stanford community to test a revised front-end of the department’s web site. The test site is located at itstest.stanford.edu.
The new layout emphasizes links to help resources, dynamic browsing and searching of products and services, and quick access to order links. A database back-end powers an option to login via WebAuth to view a service list tailored to your primary Stanford affiliation (i.e., staff, faculty, student) or defined role. Defined roles currently include Local Network Administrator, Resident Computer Consultant, and Department Contact with OrderIT site access). More details about the new features are provided below.
The new materials consist of a completely reworked department home page and the linked service catalog with browse and search capability; if you follow a link from one of the test pages to a “live” service, project, or organization page, you will need to use your browser’s “back” button to return to the test site.
Please share your comments and observations about the pilot site (new home page and service catalog pages only) using the provided feedback form (there’s a “feedback form” link at the top of the home page and in the upper right area of every one of the pilot pages). If you request a response, we’ll get back to you within 48 hours. We’re especially interested in hearing from you regarding services that you think are missing from the list, the relevance of highlighted services on the browse and search pages, and ways that the layout helps or hinders reading or finding information on the page(s).
Note: Besides the shared, site-wide navigation bar, the introduction of new features on the home page and catalog pages do not affect IT Services’ other organizational, project, or service pages.
