Three-way Conference Call
The easiest to use of the teleconferencing alternatives, this service allows you and two other parties to speak together in a three-party conference call. No changes to your current telephone service are required and no operator assistance is needed!
AVAILABILITY
This service is automatically available on all Stanford business telephones. You can use it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
COST
The only charges associated with using the Three Party Conference service are the long distance calling charges you incur when either of the parties resides outside the local area.
Three-Party Conference Procedure for Single-line Telephones
The following are the procedures for establishing a Three-Party Conference call from a single-line Stanford telephone (e.g., Cortelco, TMX 1104, ATC Impression).
- Dial: phone number (of the first conferee)
After connecting with the first party, ask him/her to "hold." - Press: Link
You hear three beeps followed by dial tone and the first party is placed on "conference hold." - Dial: phone number (of the next conferee)
Wait for the party to answer and you can announce the call privately (i.e., the first party cannot hear you). - Press: Link
All parties are connected to the conference call.
Note: If you disconnect and the other two parties remain on the line talking to each other, any continuing charges for long distance calls are still billed to your account since you originated the call.
Three-Party Conference Notes:
- When dialing an off-campus conferee, remember to dial “9” for an outside line before dialing the phone number. If, after dialing the phone number, you hear three beeps followed by dial tone, the call is long distance. You must enter your authorization code before the Stanford system processes the call.
- Either party you have connected to the conference call can disconnect at any time by hanging up. If you disconnect, the connection between the other two parties is also terminated unless one party is on a phone connected to the Stanford system. In the latter case, any continuing charges for long distance calls are still billed to your authorization code since you originated the call.
- On some single-line sets the Link key may be labeled “Tap” or “Flash.” If you do not have such a key, you must press and hold down the hookswitch for one second, then release.
- If you receive a busy signal or no answer when calling the second party, press Link twice to reconnect to the first party. If someone answers the call but does not want to participate in the conference, wait for that party to hang up. After a few seconds, you are reconnected automatically to the first party.
Three Party Conference Procedure for Multi-line Telephones
The following are the procedures for establishing a Three-Party Conference call from a multi-line Stanford telephone (e.g., Meridian models).
- Dial: phone number (of the first conferee)
After connecting with the first party, ask him/her to "hold." - Press: Transfer
You hear three beeps followed by dial tone and the first party is placed on "conference hold." - Dial: phone number (of the next conferee)
Wait for the party to answer and you can announce the call privately (i.e., the first party cannot hear you). - Press: Transfer
All parties are connected to the conference call.
