Redwood City/Midpoint Technology Park Expansion Project
Stanford completed the purchase of eight buildings in Redwood City's Mid-Point Technology Park on Thursday, Sept. 29. The site may eventually provide office space for some University administrative functions.
MidPoint Technology Park is a one million-square-foot Class A Office/R & D campus with 13 buildings fronting on Highway 101 in Redwood City. It was developed by TMG Partners, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's largest mixed-use property developers, which had acquired the 46-acre former Ampex manufacturing and research site in 1995. The buildings Stanford purchased are located just south of the intersection of Woodside Road and Broadway, about seven miles from the Stanford campus.
Many of the buildings are currently occupied and will not undergo any immediate changes. Instead, Stanford plans to begin working in collaboration with Redwood City leaders and the community to develop a long-term plan to modernize or replace some of the older buildings at Mid-Point for office, research, and development uses. The park includes four former Excite@Home buildings, which are under contract to be purchased by Stanford Hospital and Clinics for use as ambulatory care clinics.
