What We Do

The Computing and General Information group provides Stanford University faculty, staff, and students with a single point of contact within IT Services, giving access to appropriate levels of computing and networking services in an efficient and effective manner.

Computing and General Information Objectives

The Computing and General Information group:

  • Provides current, accurate information concerning IT Services computing and networking activities to faculty, staff, and students. (Examples: Account/Password, Applications, Network Connection, IT Services Billing, Leland Services, Software Licensing, Email, Operating System, and Essential Stanford Software.
  • Handles certain critical elements of problem management for IT Services by: logging problems, performing first-level problem determination, providing problem resolution or bypass/recovery procedures when appropriate, referring second-level questions and problems to designated IT Services consultants or groups, and monitoring problems coming though the Help Desk to ensure action has been taken.
  • Communicates availability and status of supported resources to IT Services clients through designated methods of communication in a timely manner. (Example: e-mail messages.)
  • Assists clients in administrative tasks associated with IT Services resources and services. (Examples: IT Services billing, and no-charge software distribution.)
